Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Color and Aromas: Deep crimson in color with a touch of brick on the edges. Big and intense on the nose, it is more youthful than expected. Dark plum and dried black currant fruit are complemented with cedar, leather, anise and molasses notes.

Palate: This wine opens crisp, lively and still quite fresh, with bright mixed red and black fruits. It moves through layers of candied cherries, big phenolics, plush tannins and a very nicely balanced acidity, before fading into a long, juicy, sweet fruit finish.

Assessment: Sometimes the press gets it wrong. A vintage that was initially panned is aging dramatically better than other acclaimed vintages of the period. This wine still has plenty of time left to age and enjoy, though it is certainly showing exceptionally well now.

Varietal Composition
81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot
Oakville, Napa Valley

The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is grown on our Estate vineyards and those of several partner growers all within the Oakville AVA — in the heart of the Napa Valley. The fruit is night-harvested, cluster sorted by hand, crushed, then fermented at our Oakville Estate winery. Coming from a diverse selection of vineyards, this wine showcases the complexity and diversity within this compact AVA.

For aged Cabernets such as this, dishes with more delicate flavors are a great match. Osso buco, grilled pork tenderloin and coq au vin would pair beautifully with this wine. A simple preparation of steak (seasoned with a touch of salt and pepper; no sauces) would also work nicely.
