This library re-release of Groth Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the heralded 2013 vintage. Described by retired Groth Winemaker Emeritus Michael Weis as “leisurely” from a winegrowing and winemaking perspective, 2013 was a growing season in which Mother Nature generously provided perfect weather that translated to a benchmark vintage of wines in Napa Valley.

“There was no need to be frantic about picking,” Weis recalls. “We were all very relaxed. We were able to pick when the grapes were at their finest, giving us outrageous color and bodacious tannin structure in the reds.”

“It was a perfect vintage. … It was a wonderful year to be a winemaker.”

— Michael Weis, retired Winemaker Emeritus

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

The 2013 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon shows rich aromas of cassis, ripe dark cherries, black currants, cedar and a hint of bay leaf. The mouthfeel is exuberant with bright acidity and bold tannins, a round oak sweetness, fruit flavors of plum and blackberry, and an intriguing savory note. The structure results in a remarkably long rich finish.

Accolades

“A very plush and ripe, forthright style with abundant ripe plum and berry aromas, leading to a berry-flavored palate, laced with dark chocolate and vanilla.”

Vineyard

The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is grown on our Estate vineyards and those of several partner growers all within the Oakville AVA — in the heart of the Napa Valley. The fruit is night-harvested, cluster sorted by hand, crushed, then fermented at our Oakville Estate winery. Coming from a diverse selection of vineyards, this wine showcases the complexity and diversity within this compact AVA.

Pairing

The abundance of tannins in this vintage beckons for a richly marbled bone-in rib eye, perfectly seared and dusted with salt and pepper. Should you not find that in your ice box, this Cabernet Sauvignon will be right at home with a big juicy cheeseburger, too.
