This limited-production wine represents the finest lots of the vintage from the Reserve Vineyard, a 28-acre band on the Groth family’s Oakville Estate in an area described by Wine Spectator’s James Molesworth as “the filet mignon of Napa Valley.” This set features three heralded vintages, including the 2016 Reserve, which was No. 4 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2019.
2014 RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, OAKVILLE
98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot
Intense deep garnet in the glass, this wine opens with aromas of sweet plum and black cherry, complemented by oak spice notes of nutmeg, anise and vanilla. A smooth entry on the palate builds quickly into lush, ripe, dark cherry and black currants, backed up with sweet oak and an excellent tannin structure.
2015 RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, OAKVILLE
99% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Merlot
The deep crimson color of this wine hints at its intensity. The palate is rich and concentrated yet elegant with aromas and flavors of black cherry and dark berry fruit, complemented by notes of smoke and sweet spice leading to a satisfying finish that goes on for days.
2016 RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, OAKVILLE
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot
With a dense garnet color, this wine reveals aromas of spiced cherries, cassis, dark plum and a savory touch of anise. Smooth and juicy on the entry, the palate builds quickly with full mouthfeel and bright acidity. There is a clean, elegant progression of lush plum, bright cherry and tart red currant all riding on abundant but not overpowering tannin. Spiced cherries reappear late in the finish.
