Launched with the 2019 vintage, Groth’s Oakville Neighbors Series explores the diversity of Oakville Cabernet through single-vineyard grower lots that stand on their own as a distinct expression of the appellation.

Joe’s Spade comes from a vineyard owned by the Taddei family, which has had a homestead in Oakville for five generations. Groth has a long history with the Taddei family, currently as the sole purchaser of its fruit, and retired Groth Winemaker Emeritus Michael Weis worked with the family as far back as the 1970s. Today the vineyard is farmed by Ron and Kara Taddei, Joe’s son and granddaughter. Joe’s Spade is a reference to the Taddei family logo that appears on their grape bins.

Tasting Notes

This Cabernet Sauvignon displays fresh blueberry, bright raspberry and English toffee aromas, along with an appealing wet stone or wet gravel component. Its soft sour cherry and dark-skinned plum flavors are classic to the varietal and well balanced by the wine’s tannin and acidity.

The Taddei family’s 20-acre vineyard is located on the west side of Oakville, just a stone’s throw from Ren Harris’ vineyard. It is said Antonio Taddei, Joe’s grandfather, was the first person to introduce vitis vinifera grapes to their property after Prohibition. The 2018 Joe’s Spade comes from Block 1.

Beef stew with braised vegetables and roasted herbed fingerling potatoes will pair beautifully with this wine.

Where can you ship to?

All states except AL, AR, DE, IN, LA, MS, OK, RI, UT, WV and WY. Please note it remains illegal to ship wine to any community in the state of Kentucky that prohibits the local sale of alcohol ("dry communities").

When will I receive my wine?

Ground shipping orders will arrive in 7-10 business days. Orders with Overnight, 2-Day and 3-Day shipping will ship the same business day if placed by 9 a.m. Pacific. We do not ship over the weekend.

When will I receive my tracking information?

Your tracking information will be emailed to you once your package is scanned and the wine is in transit.

SHIPPING DEADLINES:

Orders placed by 9 a.m. Monday through Friday will ship the same business day. Orders placed on weekends or holidays will ship the following business day.
