Collective Napa Valley Exclusive Summer Offering

This exclusive library re-release for Collective Napa Valley members is from a year of great reds — rich, unctuous wines with outstanding color and depth — and Groth 2009 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect example. Our flagship Cabernet represents the finest lots of the vintage from a 28-acre band on our family’s Oakville Estate in an area described by Wine Spectator as “the filet mignon of Napa Valley.”

In the magnum format, this wine is perfect for sharing at summer gatherings and barbecues.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Aromas of blackberry, black stone fruit and game meat with an herbal undercurrent greet the nose. On the palate, the wine is lush with vibrant tannins, black plum flavors, a touch of spice and a silky smooth texture inviting of another sip.

Accolades

"This is concentrated, but more reserved in feel, with a long, sleek edge and enticing hints of singed anise and apple wood running along the edges of the cassis and blackberry paste core."

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator

Vineyard

This wine represents the finest lots from the Reserve Vineyard on the Groth family’s Oakville Estate. The vineyard is a nearly 28-acre band with a disproportionately high amount of chert, a hard and compact sedimentary rock comprising quartz crystals and fossils. The site’s unique soil profile and ideal climate combine to produce the ultimate expression of Oakville — elegant and age-worthy wines from one of the world’s top Cabernet appellations.

Pairing

For aged Cabernets such as this, dishes with more delicate flavors are a great match. Osso buco, grilled pork tenderloin and coq au vin would pair beautifully with this wine. A simple preparation of steak (seasoned with a touch of salt and pepper; no sauces) would also work nicely.
