A near-ideal growing season resulted in a wine that shows the richness and ripeness of the vintage while retaining purity of fruit character, a crisp freshness and lovely depth. This wine has been stored in the optimal conditions of our cellar and is now ready to be enjoyed.

Tasting Notes

Intense deep garnet in the glass, this Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of sweet plum and black cherry, complemented by oak spice notes of nutmeg, anise and vanilla. A smooth entry on the palate builds quickly into lush, ripe, dark cherry and black currants, backed up with sweet oak and an excellent tannin structure.

The Reserve Vineyard, nearly 28 acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, is an anomaly within the greater 121 acres that comprise the Groth Oakville Estate, and within the Oakville AVA itself. The soils set this narrow band of vineyard apart. While generally described as gravelly, sandy loam, they also feature an abundance of red chert, a hard sedimentary rock made up of small quartz crystals and fossils. These rocks were deposited in this thin sliver of land by an alluvial fan flowing out of the Vaca Range to the east millions of years ago. Found in disproportionate amounts in this part of Oakville, they represent the heart and soul of the “sweet spot” we call our Reserve Vineyard.

Pairing

It’s hard to go wrong with a classic pairing like a New York steak, but roasted lamb or duck, or a vegetarian cassoulet also pair beautifully with this wine.

Where can you ship to?

All states except AL, AR, DE, IN, LA, MS, OK, RI, UT, WV and WY. Please note it remains illegal to ship wine to any community in the state of Kentucky that prohibits the local sale of alcohol ("dry communities").

When will I receive my wine?

Ground shipping orders will arrive in 7-10 business days, except in extreme weather when orders will be held until safe to ship. Orders with Overnight, 2-Day and 3-Day shipping will ship the same business day if placed by 9 a.m. Pacific. We do not ship over the weekend.

When will I receive my tracking information?

Your tracking information will be emailed to you once your package is scanned and the wine is in transit.

Orders placed by 9 a.m. Monday through Friday will ship the same business day. Orders placed on weekends or holidays will ship the following business day.
