Cellar Notes

Since our first vintage in 1982, Groth Vineyards & Winery has focused on Cabernet Sauvignon from our Oakville estate, in the heart of Napa Valley. The deep gravel soils here provide ideal conditions for growing Cabernet with structure, balance, and fruit purity. Over the years, our family has refined every part of the process—sustainable farming, precise vineyard management, and thoughtful winemaking—to capture the true character of Oakville. Each vintage tells the story of this land and the people who farm and craft it, continuing a tradition that has defined Groth from the very beginning.

Groth 2022 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon represents the very best of our Oakville Estate. Sourced from the finest vineyard blocks on the western side of the property, where gravelly soils limit vigor and concentrate flavor, this wine is made in small lots with hand-selected fruit and extended barrel aging. The Reserve shows the depth, texture, and long-lived character that defines Groth’s most exceptional Cabernet.

Notice a Few Things Missing?

From 1983 through 1999, the original vines in Block 1 of our Oakville Estate defined the early years of the Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2000, we made the decision to completely replant the block with new clones, rootstocks, trellising, and row orientation. It was a major investment in the future of our Estate, and as the young vines established themselves, no Reserve Cabernet was produced from 2000 through 2004.

You may also notice that a few earlier vintages do not yet have fact sheets available. After more than forty years as a family-owned winery, and more than a few office moves, some original paper files were tucked away a bit too well. As we uncover these pieces of our history, we will bring them back to life here.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Cabernet Sauvignon has been the foundation of Groth since 1982. Fruit from our estate and select neighboring Oakville vineyards is harvested block by block, then fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak barrels. The result is a Cabernet with rich fruit, fine tannins, and vibrant structure—a pure expression of Oakville that’s approachable when young but built to evolve for decades in the cellar.
