This set of three 750ml bottles is perfect for collectors who want to try the wine in its youth, then lay a few bottles down to later enjoy the rewards of extended cellaring. One of the top Cabernets of a benchmark vintage, Groth 2016 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on the family’s Oakville Estate in an area described by Wine Spectator’s James Molesworth as “the filet mignon of Napa Valley.” This 96-point collectible, noted for its longevity and mineral character, is a “focused and refined Cabernet with an intense, fruit-driven core.” Elegantly powerful now, this wine will be a real stunner in 10-15 years.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

The density of the deep-garnet color hints at the extraction of this wine. Aromas of spiced cherries dominate the alluring nose, accompanied by cassis, dark plum and a savory touch of anise. Smooth and juicy on the entry, the palate builds quickly with a full mouthfeel and bright acidity. There is a clean, elegant progression of lush plum, bright cherry and tart red currant all riding on abundant but not overpowering tannin. The spiced cherries make a reappearance late in the finish. Sit with this one for a while, get to know it, and enjoy the evolution.

Vineyard

This wine represents the finest lots from the Reserve Block of the Groth family’s Oakville Estate. The block is a 28-acre band with a disproportionately high amount of chert, a hard and compact sedimentary rock. The site’s unique soil profile and ideal climate combine to produce the ultimate expression of Oakville — elegant and age-worthy wines from the most remarkable winegrowing region in Napa Valley. The vineyard is sustainably farmed.

Pairing

It’s hard to go wrong with a classic pairing like a New York steak, but roasted lamb or duck, or a vegetarian cassoulet also pair beautifully with this wine.
