2019 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville

Representing the finest lots of the vintage from the Reserve blocks on our Oakville Estate, this wine is the pinnacle of our growing and winemaking efforts. When our family acquired our Oakville Estate in 1981, we knew it was a special property, one eminently suited to growing great Cabernet Sauvignon. It quickly became clear that certain Cabernet lots from the western edge of our property displayed unique, intriguing characteristics distinct enough to be bottled on their own.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Deep and pure ruby in color, this wine has an abundance of enticing aromas: beginning with boysenberry and blueberry pie, and leading to pastry cream, a bit of toast and a hint of menthol. On the palate, the tannin is supple and smooth. Flavors of blueberry and blackberry first greet the taste buds, leading to notes of chocolate-covered cherries and a fruit-driven finish that pops.

Accolades

“Classic Napa Cabernet in every way, it’s medium- to full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, a terrific spine of acidity, and the balance and purity to evolve for 20-25 years.”

Vineyard

This wine represents the finest lots from the Reserve Vineyard on the Groth family’s Oakville Estate. The vineyard is a nearly 28-acre band with a disproportionately high amount of chert, a hard and compact sedimentary rock comprising quartz crystals and fossils. The site’s unique soil profile and ideal climate combine to produce the ultimate expression of Oakville — elegant and age-worthy wines from one of the world’s top Cabernet appellations. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and has been Fish Friendly Farming certified since 2014.

Pairing

A well-marbled, grilled rib-eye, braised short ribs or a roast leg of lamb would pair beautifully with this wine. Grilled portobellos or a rich wild mushroom risotto are also excellent options.
