Inaugural release  |  Just 500 cases produced

Introduced with the 2018 vintage, Oakcross Proprietary Red represents our family’s continued focus on exploring the potential of our Oakville Estate and the broader Oakville AVA. The name — shorthand for Oakville Cross Road and the moniker given to our property when it was originally planted — symbolizes both the central position of our estate and the corridor that connects Groth to the distinguished Oakville grower partners who also contribute to this superior Napa Valley red blend.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Beautifully opaque dark plum in the glass, this blend shows great concentration from first glance. It opens with aromas of sweet vanilla, before moving into jammy dark cherry and boysenberry, along with a touch of cedar. The palate entry is very full and smooth with juicy and sweet fruit notes of dark cherry and huckleberry flooding in from the midpalate through the finish. The excellent balance of tannin, acid and fruit lends a seamless quality to the mouthfeel. Spice notes of black pepper, star anise and a hint of clove complement the fruit and tannin on the lingering finish.

Accolades

"Merlot adds mid-palate sumptuousness to this gorgeous Oakville red blend. Silky and racy to the core, but with plenty of tannins to support it all, the Oakcross has a ton to offer."

Vineyard

All the Cabernet Sauvignon in this wine is from our Oakville Estate, and the Merlot is largely from our Hillview Estate Vineyard just south of Yountville. Additional Merlot and Petit Verdot are sourced from some of our distinguished grower partners in the Oakville AVA.

Pairing

This big red wine will do well with just about any hearty protein-based meal, but its balance gives it versatility beyond the obvious “big steak.” Duck confit with lentils is a Groth family favorite. Barbecue or slow-cooked heirloom beans with a dash of bacon also would be superb.
