Wine Spectator has described Cabernet from Oakville as “the filet mignon of the Napa Valley.” It’s a perfect analogy, as these wines are a great choice to enjoy with steaks or other hearty meat dishes, or as an accompaniment to a long night of storytelling.
2016 RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON, OAKVILLE
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot
No. 4, Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2019
With a dense garnet color, this wine reveals aromas of spiced cherries, cassis, dark plum and a savory touch of anise. Smooth and juicy on the entry, the palate builds quickly with a full mouthfeel and bright acidity. There is a clean, elegant progression of lush plum, bright cherry and tart red currant all riding on abundant but not overpowering tannin. Spiced cherries reappear late in the finish.
2016 CABERNET SAUVIGNON, OAKVILLE
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot
Sweet aromas of blackberry tart, ripe plums and marzipan are complemented with a savory hint of toasted coriander seed. The palate opens smoothly, building to a rich, full mouthfeel. A beautifully balanced acidity dances throughout — giving an undercurrent of freshness and a counterpoint to the sweetness of the new French oak, lifting the dark fruits and bringing forward ripe red berries. The finish is layered with baking spices, wild blackberries, and a hint of dried black currant. This wine is enjoyably exuberant now but has the fruit and structure to last another 15+ years should you desire.
